RedMantu — Threads Into Customers

Which Reddit communities actually fit your part of the auto industry?

“Auto industry” covers a brand's own owners, the shop that fixes their car, the dealer who sold it, and the fleet manager who runs a hundred of them — and each one lives in different subreddits. Filter 91 real communities by who they're actually good for, then read the guide below to pick well.

General & Enthusiast

Broad car culture: reviews, spotting, general discussion, dashcam clips. Best for top-of-funnel awareness that isn't about one make or one transaction.

Brand & Model

One automaker or one model, run by its own owners. Best for OEM community teams and brand-specific parts/accessories sellers.

Electric Vehicles

EV makers, specific models, and charging. Best for charging networks, EV-specific parts, and energy companies.

Repair & Service

Mechanics and owners troubleshooting real problems: diagnostics, detailing, tires, audio installs. Best for repair shops and parts retailers.

Buying & Selling

People actively shopping for a car right now. Best for dealerships, financing products, and used-car marketplaces.

Off-Road & Trucks

4x4, overlanding, trucks and adventure builds. Best for off-road gear, recovery equipment and adventure-travel brands.

Vehicle-Adjacent Lifestyle

The vehicle is a means to a lifestyle (van life, road trips, RVing), not the subject itself. Best for travel gear and conversion businesses.

B2B & Services

Fleet management, logistics, insurance, and car-loan finance. Best for fleet software, insurers, lenders and transport services.

How to actually pick the right subreddits from a list like this

The mistake most people make is treating “automotive” as one audience and posting the same thing everywhere. It isn't one audience — a BMW owner, a fleet manager, and someone asking “what car should I buy” want almost nothing in common from you. Start from your customer, not the industry label, and use the segments above as a shortcut to the right shelf.

Match your business to a shelf, not the whole aisle

General & Enthusiast

Broad car culture: reviews, spotting, general discussion, dashcam clips. Best for top-of-funnel awareness that isn't about one make or one transaction.

Start with: r/cars, r/IdiotsInCars, r/Dashcam

Brand & Model

One automaker or one model, run by its own owners. Best for OEM community teams and brand-specific parts/accessories sellers.

Start with: r/BMW, r/subaru, r/Mustang

Electric Vehicles

EV makers, specific models, and charging. Best for charging networks, EV-specific parts, and energy companies.

Start with: r/electricvehicles, r/teslamotors, r/evcharging

Repair & Service

Mechanics and owners troubleshooting real problems: diagnostics, detailing, tires, audio installs. Best for repair shops and parts retailers.

Start with: r/MechanicAdvice, r/AutoDetailing, r/tires

Buying & Selling

People actively shopping for a car right now. Best for dealerships, financing products, and used-car marketplaces.

Start with: r/whatcarshouldIbuy, r/askcarsales, r/UsedCars

Off-Road & Trucks

4x4, overlanding, trucks and adventure builds. Best for off-road gear, recovery equipment and adventure-travel brands.

Start with: r/4x4, r/Offroad, r/overlanding

Vehicle-Adjacent Lifestyle

The vehicle is a means to a lifestyle (van life, road trips, RVing), not the subject itself. Best for travel gear and conversion businesses.

Start with: r/VanLife, r/roadtrip, r/GoRVing

B2B & Services

Fleet management, logistics, insurance, and car-loan finance. Best for fleet software, insurers, lenders and transport services.

Start with: r/fleetmanagement, r/Insurance, r/logistics

“Direct” vs. “indirect” fit

In the table, Direct means automotive is the community's actual subject — a marque sub, a repair sub, r/cars itself. Indirect means cars are a large, recurring subtopic inside a community that's really about something broader, like r/personalfinance (car loans), r/VanLife, or r/Insurance. Indirect subreddits can be worth more reach for the right business, but they're less tolerant of anything that reads as automotive marketing — you're a guest in someone else's house, not a member of the car club.

Beyond this list: keep finding new ones

  • Build a keyword list first, not a subreddit list. Write down what your actual customers search and complain about — not just “cars,” but the model names, part names, and problems they'd type into Reddit's search bar or Google as site:reddit.com. New EV and model subreddits appear constantly; this table is a strong starting shortlist, not the ceiling.
  • Check activity, not just subscriber count. A subreddit with a huge number and twenty people currently online is a graveyard. Open its “New” feed before you commit and see how often something real gets posted, and whether anyone replies.
  • Read the rules before you post anything. Marque and repair subreddits are usually the strictest about self-promotion — you may be limited to flair, comments, or a monthly megathread. Buying/selling subs are more receptive to direct, useful answers, but still ban outright ads.
  • Start with three to five subreddits, not thirty. Spend a couple of weeks reading and replying like a normal member before your business identity shows up anywhere. Both users and moderators spot a brand account fast.
  • Revisit the list every few months. Communities merge, go private — two on this list already have — get new mod teams, or simply go quiet. Treat any list, including this one, as living, not final.

How this list was built. We started from roughly 100 candidate subreddits spanning car brands and models, the EV ecosystem, repair/parts/detailing, off-road and car culture, plus vehicle-adjacent communities like van life, RVing, insurance, logistics and personal finance. We pulled each one's public Reddit data and reviewed it by hand, filtering out subreddits that only mention cars in passing (general tech, camping, home improvement, and the like) — leaving the 91 above.

Data snapshot as of September 1, 2026. Member counts, descriptions and privacy status drift over time — treat this as a strong starting shortlist, not gospel.

Not into re-checking dozens of subreddits by hand every week? RedMantu watches the communities your customers hang out in and flags the threads worth a reply — scored and explained, the moment they land.
